Smokies Shake Things Up:

Over the week, the Trail Smoke Eaters went through a fairly large shakeup, sending 20 year d-man Rajan Sidhu to the Drumheller Dragons in return for a 19 year goaltender named James D'Andrea. D'Andrea, a native of Calgary, Alberta, compiled an 11-20-4 record with a 4.11 GAA in 42 AJHL appearances with the Dragons and Calgary Canucks. He has definitely struggled at the Junior A level, but a fresh start in Trail should help him out a lot.

The Smokies also sent goaltender Matt Larose and youngster Dan Delbianco to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in a 5 player deal that sees them receive a butt load of talent in return. Taylor House, an ex-Osoyoos Coyote, will provide an offensive spark and Tanner Hicks, an ex-Olds Grizzly, will also contribute. Rajan Sidhu is replaced by '93 born D-man Marley Keca, the native of Kelowna has 1.5 seasons of experience under his belt, after spending his rookie season in Quesnel after leaving the KIJHL's North Okanagan Knights. Marley and I go back to those days, he is a great kid who will help the Smoke Eaters be competitive every night.

Best of Luck to everyone who was shuffled in the deal! For more information, check out this link, it will take you directly to the article on the Trail website.

BCHL Trade

Well today an ex-teammate with Nanaimo was shipped to Humboldt of the SJHL from the BCHL's Prince George Spruce Kings. Sam Waterfield, a 20 year old blueliner, will suit up for the Broncos, in good time at that. The City of Humboldt is preparing to host the RBC Cup this year, talk about an easy route for Sam to get in to the RBC. Here are Sams stats from years past. The Broncs' have won the SJHL title in 3 of the past 5 years, so success is something they come to expect, and I am sure Sam will help this Hockey team when he returns from knee surgery. Best of luck, Sam!

To PG: Future Considerations
To Humboldt: '91 D Sam Waterfield

College/University Commitments

I would like to first off congratulate Curtis Loik on landing an NCAA Div. 1 Scholarship to Penn State. Penticton now has a whopping 11 committed players on their roster! Kids, if you have a dream to go play NCAA Hockey, this has got to be one of your top choices for Jr. A Hockey. What an exceptional program Fred Harbinson has down there in Penticton. Not only do they have one of BC's premier Hockey arenas, they are also based out of one of Canada's nicest places to live. The Vees will be sending two(2) players to Quinnipiac, three(3) players to Minnesota State, and two to St. Cloud as well as Notre Dame. To see all of the leagues commitments, check out this link!
Vernon currently has 6 players listed as commited, including '95 born forward Riley Hunt, who committed to Harvard for the fall of 2014. Westside and Surrey currently have 5 commitments listed, while Salmon Arm, Powell River and Nanaimo all sit at 4. Impressive stats for not just these teams, but for the BCHL in general. Merritt, Coquitlam, and Alberni are currently the only 3 teams in the league without any players receiving NCAA/CIS commitments. That should change right away as I personally know one player on each of those teams that is capable of playing at that level and of achieving excellent marks. As an entity, the league has currently, 49 listed commitments.
Now that folks, IS SMART HOCKEY!
